Thanks to generous support from the Wenner-Gren Foundation, we can offer five travel awards of up to NZ$1000 each for ASAA/NZ 2025 conference participants from low- and middle-income countries.* This travel award is to help financially support participants without access to funding, such as precarious scholars and postgraduate students without institutional support. Priority will be given to applicants from Oceania and Southeast Asia given their proximity to Aotearoa New Zealand and travel affordability. Applications are due by 31 August 2025.

Michael Goldsmith awarded Honorary Life Membership of ASAA/NZ
Michael Goldsmith (Honorary Fellow of the University of Waikato, and Research Associate in Anthropology at the University of Waikato) has been awarded Honorary Life Membership of the Association of Social Anthropologists of Aotearoa New Zealand. We are delighted to confer this award upon him in recognition of his four decades of outstanding service to our organisation, to the success of social anthropology at the University of Waikato and throughout the country, and for his many contributions to the Pacific Islands and their peoples.

The Fund currently gives more to Social or Cultural Anthropology graduate students than it receives in income. Your donation will help ensure the sustainability of this fund.
